Rooftop dining in London is more than a view. It’s a way to step out of the city’s routine, to feel the breeze, to see the skyline change colour as the sun dips. The experience is measured by three things: the quality of the food, the clarity of the atmosphere, and the ease of access. If you want a weekend that feels a bit different, start with a table that looks down on the Thames.

The top three rooftops for 2024

1. The Shard’s 52nd‑Floor Lounge

Located inside the world‑famous Shard, the 52nd‑Floor Lounge opens at 6 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. The menu is a mix of modern British and seasonal produce. A signature dish is the smoked salmon and avocado tartare, served with a citrus vinaigrette that cuts the richness. Prices start at £28 for the starter, £48 for the main, and £18 for dessert. The view spans from the river to the cross‑rail line, and the bar offers a complimentary glass of champagne on arrival.

2. The Sky Garden’s Secret Terrace

Hidden behind a glass wall, the Sky Garden’s Secret Terrace is free to enter, but you must book a table in advance. The terrace sits at 125 metres, and the menu leans into plant‑based creativity. Their beetroot risotto, topped with candied walnuts, is a hit among vegetarians. The terrace has a relaxed vibe; a live acoustic set starts at 8 pm on Saturdays, adding a touch of intimacy to the panoramic backdrop.

3. The OXO Tower’s Skyline Bar

The OXO Tower’s Skyline Bar is best for those who want to pair a fine wine with a view. The bar hosts a rotating list of Bordeaux and Burgundy labels. The menu is small but precise: a foie gras torchon for £35, a roasted lamb rack for £42, and a chocolate soufflé for £12. The bar opens at 5 pm on Fridays and closes at 11 pm on Saturdays. A special discount of 10 % applies to guests who arrive before 7 pm on Fridays.

How to make the most of your rooftop outing

• Book early. The best tables fill up by 4 pm on Fridays. A phone call or an online reservation is enough to secure a spot.
• Dress appropriately. While most rooftops are casual, the Shard’s Lounge recommends smart casual for the 8 pm dinner service.
• Take a photo. The skyline is a great backdrop for a quick Instagram story, but remember to keep the focus on the food.
• Plan your transport. The nearest tube stations are London Bridge for the Shard, Tower Hill for the Sky Garden, and Embankment for the OXO Tower.

From the skyline to the screen: a quick detour

After a glass of Bordeaux at the OXO Tower, you might want to keep the evening going with a touch of online gaming. If you’re looking for a casual way to unwind, you can visit https://www.kfc-menu.co.uk for a quick bite and some light entertainment.
